Sonja Foster’s Family in Social Change class participated in the #RapeCultureIsWhen Twitter campaign. Students were required to provide at least one tweet addressing the issue and respond to at least two other tweets. Students submitted a reflection paper on the activity and the use of social media in raising awareness on issues such as this. This activity was conducted as a part of the discussion on violence in families.
Lisa Moyer and Christine Czapek presented their research at the National Council on Undergraduate Research on the University of Kentucky’s campus in Lexington. The title of the presentation was Keep calm and cope on: How families cope with childhood cancer. The research was selected through a competitive review process.
Lisa Moyer recently received a Faculty Development Support grant. The support will be used to attend the 2014 Dealing with Differences Institute, which is hosted by the Illinois Association for Cultural Diversity. The institute is held on the Western Illinois University campus in Macomb, IL on May 13-14, 2014. This year’s theme is “Social Justice and Education.”
